Day 1: Arrival at Dehradun and Drive to Sankri Market
The journey begins with a pick-up from Dehradun railway station, followed by a scenic drive to Sankri Market. Covering a distance of 210 kilometers, the drive takes about 7 to 8 hours, offering glimpses of the beautiful landscape of Uttarakhand. Upon arrival at Sankri, situated at an altitude of 1,920 meters, you will settle in for an overnight stay at the Sankri base camp, preparing for the trek ahead.
Day 2: Trek from Sankri to Juda ka Talab
On the second day, the adventure truly begins as you trek from Sankri to Juda ka Talab. This 5-kilometer trek takes about 4 to 5 hours, gradually ascending to an elevation of 2,700 meters. The trail offers captivating views of dense pine forests and snow-covered trails, eventually leading to the serene Juda Lake. The day concludes with an overnight stay by the lake, where you can soak in the tranquil surroundings.
Day 3: Trek from Juda ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base Camp
Day three involves a shorter trek of 3.5 kilometers from Juda ka Talab to the Kedarkantha base camp. This trek, which takes 2 to 3 hours, brings you to an altitude of 3,200 meters. The base camp offers a picturesque setting with views of towering peaks and vast open meadows. Here, you’ll spend the night, resting in preparation for the summit climb the following day.
Day 4: Summit Kedarkantha and Return to Juda Lake Campsite
The fourth day is the highlight of the trek, as you make your way from the Kedarkantha base camp to the Kedarkantha summit, standing at an impressive 12,500 feet (3,800 meters). The ascent, though challenging, is incredibly rewarding with panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayas. After spending some time at the summit, you’ll descend back to the Juda Lake campsite, covering a distance of 2.5 kilometers in 2 to 3 hours. The day ends with an overnight stay at Juda Lake, where you can reflect on the summit experience.
Day 5: Trek Back to Sankri and Return to Dehradun
On the final day, you’ll trek 5 kilometers from Juda Lake back to the Sankri base camp, descending to an altitude of 2,700 meters. This trek typically takes around 2 to 3 hours. After reaching Sankri, you’ll embark on a drive back to Dehradun, covering the 210-kilometer journey in about 8 hours. This marks the end of the trek, leaving you with unforgettable memories of the Kedarkantha adventure.
